Придя на рынок, вы, скорее всего, столкнетесь с проблемой выбора - все продавцы будут расхваливать своих рептилий. Но как выбрать действительно здоровое животное, которое долго будет радовать вас? Выбирая игуану, возьмите ее в руки и тщательно обследуйте от головы до кончика хвоста, обращая внимание на следующие показатели:
- Кожа рептилии должна быть чистой, без царапин ссадин. Кожа на теле не должна висеть складками, а глаза не должны западать. Это бывает при высокой степени обезвоживания, происходящего от отсутствия ухода либо из-за бактериальных заболеваний.
- На брюшке не должно быть желтых или бурых сухих пятен, оно должно быть чистым без следов земли или экскрементов. Их наличие свидетельствует о содержании животного в антисанитарных условиях, а значит ящерица может быть ослаблена и, возможно, больна.
- Засохших экскрементов не должно быть и вокруг клоаки. Их присутствие указывает на кишечные заболевания, проблемы с пищеварением или наличие паразитов.
- Тело, лапы и хвост не должны иметь шишек, вздутий и искривлений, возникающих после переломов, при серьезной кальциевой недостаточности и, иногда, при наличии подкожных гельминтов.
- Особенно внимательно осмотрите кожу вокруг ушей, на горле и гребень. Наличие на коже медленно перемещающихся красновато коричневых или оранжевых точек говорит о заражении клещами.
- Осмотрите лапы и когти животного. Разрушенные когти или вздутия на пальцах и суставах свидетельстуют о нарушениях обмена веществ, кальциевой недостаточности.
- Хвост у основания должен быть округленный, у хорошо упитанных ящериц - даже с выемкой. На ощупь хвост не должен быть костистым и морщинистым. Толстый хвост - показатель здорового аппетита!
- Рот должен быть чистым, розового или серо-розового цвета, без язв, слизи, желтого налета или творожистых масс в углах рта и под языком, указывающих на стоматиты и кишечные инфекции. Не бойтесь осмотреть рот, это важно!
- Глаза должны быть чистыми, а нос свободным от корочек или слизистых выделений - это происходит при дыхательных инфекциях или конъюнктивитах.
Понаблюдайте за поведением игуаны. Прирученная здоровая игуана ведет себя спокойно, но не вяло - стремиться подняться по вашим рукам на плечо, крепко держится, но не проявляет при этом агрессии.
Дикая, но здоровая игуана будет стараться уйти, иногда пытаясь бить хвостом, или даже открывать пасть, пытаясь укусить. Держать в руках такое животноё следует осторожно, что бы не получить травмы самому и не травмировать ящерицу.
Больные животные могут делать попытки вырваться, но они слабые и через некоторое время, исчерпав запас сил, ящерица замирает с закрытыми глазами.
